Like a ghost from Cartier’s past, the Cartier Santos Carrée ref. 2961 carries details that only appeared through age and wear. Its vertically brushed slate gray dial has faded unevenly over time, creating the “ghost dial” effect collectors chase today, where the Cartier signature and Swiss text nearly disappear under certain light. Framed by a compact 29mm two-tone steel and yellow-gold case, the squared-off Carrée design helped shift the Santos into a more casual sports-watch direction during the late 1970s and 1980s.
Gold sword hands, a white date wheel, and Cartier’s blue sapphire cabochon crown keep the display unmistakably Cartier. Inside is the self-winding time-and-date Caliber 077, based on the ETA 2671, with a 42-hour power reserve.
