When Cartier introduced the Ballon Bleu in 2007, it didn’t resemble anything else in the brand’s catalogue. The rounded case, recessed crown, and blue cabochon tucked into its sweeping crown guard gave the watch a softer profile than Cartier’s angular collections. Nearly two decades later, those details still set the Ballon Bleu apart from Cartier’s other round watches today.
Viewed from the front, the Ballon Bleu feels every bit as distinctive. The silvered flinqué guilloché dial brings another layer of depth as light moves across its engraved surface, framed by Roman numerals and blued sword hands with a date display at 3 o’clock. Timekeeping comes from an automatic Caliber 049 movement, delivering a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. The 42mm steel case is paired with a stainless steel bracelet finished with Cartier’s invisible double deployant clasp.
