The Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph, reference 5980/1A-001, is a 40.5mm stainless steel sports watch with the signature porthole-inspired case and a horizontally embossed blue gradient dial that darkens toward the edges. The dial carries applied luminous baton markers, a date window at 3 o’clock, a chronograph minute scale around the rim and a subdial at 6 that combines the running seconds, the 12-hour counter and the 30-minute counter in a single display. Inside is the automatic Caliber CH 28-520 C, a flyback chronograph with a column wheel and a vertical clutch, offering between 45 and 55 hours of power reserve; it is visible through the sapphire caseback. The case is water-resistant to 120 meters and the steel bracelet closes with Patek’s fold-over clasp. Launched in 2006 as the first chronograph in the Nautilus line, the 5980/1A was among the most sought-after steel sports watches produced by Patek Philippe, and it is now a discontinued reference. The blue dial gives the steel case a sporty but refined appearance.
