The Rolex Submariner Date, reference 116610LN, is a 40mm Oystersteel dive watch with a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel that rotates in one direction only and carries a platinum-coated 60-minute scale. The black dial is fitted with large luminescent Chromalight markers, Mercedes-style hands and a Cyclops lens over the date window at 3 o’clock, and the ceramic insert resists fading and scratching far better than the aluminum bezels of earlier models. Inside is the automatic Caliber 3135, a Rolex manufacture movement with approximately 48 hours of power reserve and certification as a Superlative Chronometer. The screw-down crown and solid caseback keep the watch water-resistant to 300 meters. It is fitted to an Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock safety clasp and Glidelock extension, which lets the wearer lengthen the strap in small steps without tools. The 116610LN served as the standard steel Submariner Date from 2010 until the larger-cased 126610 replaced it, and it remains one of the most recognizable sports watches Rolex has produced.
