Description
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin 15202IP, Titanium & Platinum, 1 of 250
Most people walk right past this watch. From across the room it reads like a steel Jumbo. Then the light catches the bezel and you realize two things: the bezel is platinum, and the case isn’t steel at all. It’s titanium. That’s the whole point of the 15202IP. Audemars Piguet made 250 of them in 2018, sold them through its own boutiques to clients it already knew, and never made another.
The last of the original Jumbos
The 15202 is as close as you can get to Gérald Genta’s 1972 Royal Oak without buying a vintage piece. It’s 39mm across, 8.1mm thick, and runs the same ultra-thin Calibre 2121 family that powered the original. In 2022, AP retired the 15202 and replaced it with the 16202. So every 15202 now marks the end of a line, and the titanium-and-platinum “IP” is the most unusual production version of it. It was also the first Jumbo ever made in that combination.
Titanium and platinum, done right
The case and main bracelet links are grade 5 titanium, satin-brushed with the polished bevels the Royal Oak is known for. The octagonal bezel and the small center links of the bracelet are 950 platinum, mirror-polished. In person, the contrast is subtle. It’s a watch for people who know what they’re looking at. The titanium also takes a little weight off compared with a steel Jumbo.
The smoked blue dial
The dial is a smoked blue Petite Tapisserie: medium blue at the center fading to almost black at the edge. It’s brighter than the classic Jumbo dial, and the guilloché pattern catches light differently every time you check the time. White gold applied markers and Royal Oak hands, both with luminescent coating, sit over the dial. There’s a date at 3 o’clock and no seconds hand, so the dial stays clean.
Calibre 2121
The self-winding Calibre 2121 is only 3.05mm thick. That’s why the case stays so slim. It runs at 19,800 vph with a 40-hour power reserve, and you can watch the gold rotor and Côtes de Genève bridges through the sapphire caseback. One honest note: the 2121 has no quick-set date. You set it by running the hands past midnight. It’s a quirk of a movement designed in the late ’60s, and the collectors who buy this watch wouldn’t change it.
What the market says
Retail in 2018 was $34,800. In November 2024, Phillips sold one in Geneva for CHF 101,600, and another went for CHF 88,900 at Phillips in March 2025. I’m not going to call any watch an investment. What I will tell you is that the auction rooms have already done the pricing work on this one, and with 250 pieces made, you don’t see many of them.
