Patek Philippe kept the Nautilus ref. 5980/1A surprisingly simple for a chronograph. The watch uses a monocounter layout that combines the chronograph hours and minutes into a single oversized register at 6 o’clock, avoiding the busy look that most chronographs fall into. That leaves the horizontal-grooved dial looking open and well-proportioned, exactly how a Nautilus should. The 40.5mm steel case carries the collection’s signature rounded-octagonal design, finished with alternating brushed and polished surfaces. A screw-down crown keeps water resistance at 120 meters, while the sapphire caseback reveals the automatic caliber CH 28-520 C and its solid gold rotor underneath.
