Description
The gold Patek Philippe Beta 21 has a somewhat unusual origin story dating back to 1969 and the onset of what is now known as the Quartz Crisis. As the story goes, Patek Philippe and several other major Swiss brands came together to develop and produce a reliable quartz movement to compete with the quartz watches that were taking the market by storm from overseas. The result was the Beta 21, a thick quartz movement that was accurate to 5 seconds per month. 6,000 movements were shared between the collaborative Swiss brands, of which less than 100 were used to create the yellow gold/integrated bracelet Patek ref. 3587.
The Beta 21 was Patek’s first quartz wristwatch. It features a thick case made in-house to accommodate the movement, a mesh-style bracelet dubbed by some as “Swiss Cheese,” and a blue “Sigma” dial with gold elements to match the rest of the watch. It is incredibly rare and will be a prized find for anyone who appreciates a watch with this much history.
