Produced from 1992 to 2007, the ref. 5040 of Patek Philippe impressed many. The watch has a distinct pebble-shaped tonneau case crafted in luxurious platinum and worn on a classic black leather strap. The case’s unique silhouette allows the watch to sit nicely on the wrist. On the watch’s black dial are seven Arabic numeral hour markers, two white gold dots for 5 and 7, a railway minute track, leaf hands, and three sub-dials. The sub-dial at 3 o’clock displays the month and leap-year cycle, the one at 6 indicates the date and moon phase, and the sub-dial at 9 is for the day of the week and 24-hour indication. While there’s plenty of information presented, the layout is beautifully balanced and easy to read. Powering this watch is the famed Patek Philippe caliber 240Q automatic movement with 48 hours of power reserve.
