The Otsuka Lotec No. 5 Kai is a 40.5mm stainless steel watch from the Tokyo independent brand Otsuka Lotec, known for unconventional mechanical displays. Instead of conventional hands, hours appear on a rotating numeral disk that jumps instantly at the roller near 8 o’clock, twice every hour, while the minutes are read on a fixed curved scale on the right side of the dial. A three-armed satellite structure sits at the center of the dial, with exposed gears, screws and gold-toned elements visible beneath a domed crystal. Japanese characters for Lotec and Tokyo appear on the dial, along with the model name. The case is brushed steel with a knurled crown at 3 o’clock and is fitted to a black leather strap. Otsuka Lotec builds small numbers of watches that treat the dial as a mechanical sculpture, which makes the No. 5 Kai an appealing piece for collectors of independent Japanese watchmaking.
