The Cartier Santos Galbee XL Automatic, reference W20099C4, is a two-tone stainless steel and 18k yellow gold watch with the square case that Cartier first made in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. The XL size has a curved case profile, an 18k yellow gold bezel secured by eight visible screws, and an integrated steel and gold bracelet with matching screw details on each link. The silvered dial carries black Roman numerals, a railroad minute track, the word Automatic below the Cartier signature and a date window at 4:30. Blued steel sword-shaped hands and a blued seconds hand are used for the time. An octagonal steel crown with a blue sapphire cabochon sits on the right side of the case. A self-winding movement powers the watch, and the bracelet closes with a folding clasp. The larger XL dimensions make the Santos easier to read and give it more presence on the wrist, and the steel and gold combination keeps the traditional look that has made this one of Cartier’s most recognizable men’s watches.
