The IWC Portugieser Tribute to Pallweber Edition ‘150 Years,’ reference IW505003, revives the digital jumping-numeral display first patented by Josef Pallweber in 1884 and used on IWC pocket watches from that era. Rather than conventional hands, the watch tells the time through two cut-out apertures on its blue sunburst dial, a jumping-hour disc at 12 o’clock and a jumping-minute disc below it, both changing instantaneously rather than sweeping, with a small seconds sub-dial anchoring the layout beneath the IWC Schaffhausen signature. Housed in a 45mm stainless steel case, the watch runs on the manually wound Caliber 94200, an IWC manufacture movement built specifically to drive the jumping digital displays, delivering roughly 60 hours of power reserve and visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback. It is fitted to a black alligator leather strap with a pin buckle, and the case is water-resistant to 30 meters. Released as a limited run of 500 pieces to mark the 150th anniversary of IWC’s founding in Schaffhausen in 1868, the Tribute to Pallweber reinterprets a design IWC had not revisited in over a century, and it remains one of the more mechanically distinctive executions in the modern Portugieser line.
