Ulysse Nardin chose a striking azure blue for the ref. 1183-170-2B to mark World Oceans Day, but the real story is how that theme ties into the actual build of the watch.
Instead of simply adding a splash of color, they built the case using a mix of recycled fishing nets and upcycled carbon, turning ocean waste into a dive instrument. Vibrant blue marks the X motif on the textured dial and carries through to the power reserve display and oversized small seconds counter inspired by the brand’s historic ship clocks.
Inside the 44mm steel/Nylo case is the automatic Caliber UN-118, which uses a diamond-coated silicon escapement to keep things running friction-free. With this watch, the internal technology is every bit as forward-thinking as the recycled materials on the outside.
