This reference features a 37mm yellow gold case containing a tachymeter scale calibrated for 1000 meters. Blued steel hands rotate above black Breguet numerals, while the automatic Calibre UN 38 powers the single-button chronograph system. The solid back features a relief portrait of the manufacturer’s founder.
Before Ulysse Nardin became known for building some of the most innovative watches in the industry, they were making watches like this. It’s a monopusher chronograph — a single button sets off all the functionality of the watch. And hidden inside is a movement connected to some of the biggest names in Swiss watchmaking. Cartier made a watch called the Tortue, also a monopusher chronograph. Who made that chronograph? None other than Flageollet, Halter and François-Paul Journe.
It’s not the most famous Ulysse Nardin ever made, but it might be one of the best examples of how the brand evolved into what it is today.
