This Panerai Luminor ref. 5218-201/A marks the transition from military-only manufacturing to public release in 1993. Fewer than 700 pieces were made before the Vendôme (Richemont) acquisition.
The watch has a 44mm stainless steel case with a crown guard that locks the winding crown in place. A matte black brass dial keeps the layout simple, with tritium-filled Arabic numerals and markers that have developed visible patina. The ETA 6497-1 in this reference rusn at 18,000 vibrations per hour, keeping time with a steady, even tempo.
It is fitted with a rare sharkskin strap and its original pre-Vendôme buckle.
