This Santos-Dumont departs from the expected in deliberate ways. Instead of a high-polish gold bezel, Cartier fills the recessed bezel track with taupe gray lacquer. The inlay sits flush within the 18k yellow gold frame. The dial continues the approach, sunray-brushed in taupe gray surrounded by applied gold Arabic markers. Inside is a manual-wind movement, Caliber 430 MC, which is a 2.1mm-thick Cartier-signed Piaget 430P that allows this “Large” model watch to measure a slim 7.3mm. The solid caseback bears the engraved signature of Alberto Santos-Dumont, reserved for these lacquer editions.
