Sometimes, tiny quirks can make vintage Rolex watches hugely collectible. Rolex famously applied the logos of Domino’s, the USAF Thunderbirds, and countless other organizations to various special award watches from about 1960-2010. Possibly the most desirable type of “logo dial” of all is the Khanjar dial. The image of two crossed curved daggers (khanjars) is the symbol of the royal family of Oman, known as the Khanjar Crest. This early iteration of the Khanjar dial is extra special because it features an applied gold crest rather than a simple painted one.
Hailing from the early 1970’s, this classic Rolex Datejust is crafted from 18k yellow gold and is powered by the reliable automatic Caliber 1570 movement. Featuring a pie pan dial with “doorstop” markers at 6 and 9 o’clock, this is a beautiful example of a vintage Rolex even without the rare gold crest.
