A watch inspired by Godzilla could have gone in a very different direction. Grand Seiko chose subtle references instead, leaving the tribute to reveal itself piece by piece.
The ref. SBGA405 features a 44.5mm high-intensity titanium case that follows the angular profile of the Grand Seiko’s Sport Collection. It frames a deep burgundy dial that takes its cue from Godzilla’s atomic heat ray. Despite the dramatic color, the broad hands, oversized Lumibrite-filled markers, and anti-reflective dual-curved sapphire crystal keep the watch easy to read in the conditions it was built for.
A textured sharkskin strap finished in red and black echoes the creature’s rugged hide without feeling overtly thematic. Inside, the Spring Drive Caliber 9R15 delivers exceptional accuracy of ±0.5 seconds per day, while the sapphire caseback hides the most direct tribute of all: an engraving of Godzilla towering over Ginza’s clock tower.
