126610LN

Oystersteel, Black Cerachrom Bezel — Introduced 2020

Rolex Daytona 126500LN

Introduced at Baselworld 2020, the 126610LN is the current-generation Submariner Date in steel. A 41mm case, slimmer lug profile, and the new Caliber 3235 with 70 hours of power reserve mark meaningful departures from the 116610LN it replaced. It remains the definitive reference point for any serious watch collection.

How the Submariner
Got Here

1953 – 1954

Ref. 6204 & 6205

Rolex’s first Submariner launched in 1953 alongside the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, predating it by months and establishing the template for every dive watch that followed. The 6204 was rated to 100m, featured a rotating bezel, and was built for function over form. No date, no Cyclops, no crown guards. It was a tool, and it looked like one.

Manual wind • 36mm • 100m WR

1969 – 1979

Ref. 1680

The reference 1680 introduced the date complication to the Submariner line, adding the Cyclops magnifying lens at 3 o’clock. This is the first Submariner Date, and the direct ancestor of every reference in this lineage. It also introduced the matte dial aesthetic that defined Submariners for the next decade.

Automatic • Cal. 1570 • 40mm • 200m WR

1988 – 2010

Ref. 16610

The 16610 is the Submariner that most collectors grew up with. It ran for 22 years with minimal changes, which is exactly the point. Black gloss dial replaced matte, sapphire crystal replaced acrylic, and the movement evolved through several updates. The 16610LV, the green-bezel Hulk, arrived in 2003 for the 50th anniversary and became one of the most recognizable Submariner variants.

2010 – 2020

Ref. 116610LN

The first Submariner with a ceramic Cerachrom bezel insert. The transition from aluminum to ceramic was significant: scratch-resistant, UV-stable, and visually sharper. The case grew to the Super-Case proportions that divided collectors — blockier lugs, a more substantial presence. Caliber 3135 carried over. Discontinued in 2020 and now appreciating steadily on the secondary market.

2020 – Present

Ref. 126610LN

The Super-Case is gone. The 126610LN returns to slimmer, more tapered lugs that echo the pre-2010 Submariner silhouette while growing the case to 41mm. The Caliber 3235 replaces the 3135 with a 70-hour power reserve, Chronergy escapement, and improved accuracy. The bracelet gained Glidelock for micro-adjustment without tools. The black Cerachrom bezel and black dial remain unchanged — because nothing was wrong with them.

126610LN Dial Variants

Black Dial / Black Bezel

Black Dial / Black Bezel

The Submariner has always been a black-on-black watch, and the 126610LN offers only one configuration. Black lacquered dial, black Cerachrom bezel, Chromalight lume on hands and hour markers. No dial choice to agonize over. The only variables on the secondary market are condition, year, and box-and-papers status.
