The UR-210 landed in 2012, bringing with it a satellite complication with retrograde minute, which featured a world-first indication – a winding efficiency pointer that displayed the watch’s winding efficiency over the last two hours. Urwek is famous for using unusual displays to tell the time, and the UR-210 is no different, using hour satellites that travel across a 0-to-60-minute scale. Even more impressive is that when the arrow reaches 60, it flips back to its starting position (capturing the next hour satellite in the process) in less than 0.1 of a second. There’s also a loud click when that happens to notify you that a new hour has begun.

There are two retrograde indicators on the dial: a power reserve indicator at 1 o’clock and a winding efficiency indicator at 11 o’clock, which relays how much power the watch has gathered over the last two hours. Green indicates that the movement is sufficiently wound while red tells you to get moving to add more juice to the mainspring. The caseback is home to the “winding efficiency selector” where you can choose to engage or disengage the turbine connected to the rotor. Engaging it slows down the winding process (useful for when you’re super active) while disengaging it means the rotor will wind with even the slight arm motion (useful when you’re being less active. Otherwise, you can disable the automatic winding altogether and switch the UR-210 to manual winding.

The Urwerk UR-210Y Black Hawk was a special limited edition variant of the series, dressed in stealthy black and launched in 2014. Only 75 examples were made of the Urwerk UR-210Y Black Hawk. The black scratch-resistant titanium and steel case measures an imposing 43.8mm x 53.6mm and 17.8mm thick, yet its ergonomic design is super comfortable on the wrist. It’s paired with a black fabric strap, which keeps things light and sporty.
