They’re known for horologically advanced watches with partially cut-out dials, and the Double Balancier line is no exception. Two balance wheels are clearly visible to the wearer, both oriented at different angles so as to minimize the effects of positional variance. The two balance wheels are connected by an incredibly intricate spherical differential that averages their rates.
But this is no ordinary Double Balancier; this is a Double Balancier Sapphire, with a case carved entirely from one block of sapphire and a retail price around $700,000. It takes 900 hours of machining to achieve its shape. For that reason, sapphire watches are some of the most exclusive ones on the market—and this one, being a Greubel Forsey, is extra special.
