Created in 1994 to honor cartographer Gerardus Mercator four centuries after his passing, the Vacheron Constantin 43050/000P stands as a rare horological tribute. Its solid gold dial features hand-engraved maps of Europe, Asia, and Africa filled with black enamel inlay. Instead of traditional hands, twin arms modeled after navigation compasses sweep across twin lower arcs, with the left marking twelve hours and the right tracking sixty minutes. Encased in heavy platinum, this piece represents one of only a few dozen platinum executions within a total 638-piece production run.
