The Rolex Day-Date 40 Reference 228236, which debuted in 2022, is the first platinum Day-Date 40 ever made with a fluted bezel. Finely machining platinum is notoriously difficult, so previously smooth bezels were the norm for platinum Day-Dates. The platinum Day-Date 40 could even rightly be considered Rolex’s flagship watch.
This example features an ice blue dial with diamond hour markers. Powered by the Caliber 3255 self-winding mechanical movement, the watch offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. As a Superlative Chronometer, it is guaranteed to run within -2/+2 seconds per day.
Completing the timepiece is the famous President bracelet sealed by a hidden Crownclasp. Despite today’s stratospheric gold prices, platinum Rolex prices are higher than gold versions due to .950 platinum’s higher purity, density, and difficulty to machine.
