Breitling x Kelly Slater Watches
Among Breitling’s impressive list of celebrity ambassadors is Kelly Slater, a legend in the surfing world whose lasting influence and 11 world titles have firmly established him as the Michael Phelps/Jordan of his sport. In 2014, after retiring from professional competition, he founded Outerknown, a sustainable clothing brand known for making products out of Econyl–a proprietary fiber made largely from reclaimed nylon fishing nets. In 2018, Breitling released their first Outerknown collab, featuring an Econyl strap. At this point, Breitling has now released six watches associated with Kelly Slater–four Outerknown versions and two models officially named “Kelly Slater”–and we’ll go over all of them.

Breitling loves to talk about their “air, land and sea” watches, and naturally every model associated with Slater is a Breitling Superocean, the “sea” part of the catalog. Let’s start at the beginning.
Breitling’s First Kelly Slater Collab: Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown (2018)
Reference number: M133132A1C1W1 2025 secondhand value: $4,300
The first Breitling x Outerknown model was a Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 44 model. It debuted in 2018 sporting Breitling’s first Econyl strap. The cerulean color of the dial is outstanding, and it goes nicely with the 44mm DLC-coated stainless steel case.
This watch already seems like the product of a bygone era, though–DLC steel has gone out of fashion in favor of DLC-coated titanium (due to better wear resistance over time). And although it was a staple of their lineup for decades, as of 2025, the ETA/Valjoux 7750 (with its famous 6-9-12 subdial layout) is no longer used as a base movement by Breitling. Breitling’s perpetual calendar chronographs and Datora models are now their only options that display the day of the week. Still, this is one of the cooler luxury watches available for under $5,000 today–as long as you don’t mind the 15.65mm case height.
Superocean Automatic 44 Outerknown (2019)
Reference number: A17367A11L1W1 2025 secondhand value: $3,400
The first simple time-and-date Breitling x Outerknown Superocean came in 2019, and it’s also the first Breitling that Kelly Slater was spotted wearing. Its olive green dial matches its unique green aluminum bezel insert nicely, and naturally, it came on an Econyl strap too. This is also a pretty meaty watch, with a width of 44mm, thickness of over 14mm, and a rather absurd water resistance of 1,000m.
2019 is also when Econyl straps became purchasable separately from Breitling in nearly any color. I put one on my Superocean Abyss and it’s pretty nice–it just feels like regular thick nylon.
Superocean Heritage ’57 Outerknown (2020)
Reference numbers: A103703A1Q1W1 and U103701A1Q1W1 2025 secondhand value: $3,200 (steel), $4,500 (two-tone, limited to 500 pieces)
Breitling’s final Outerknown collaboration (for now at least) came the next year. This time, the basis was the Superocean Heritage ’57, which is a lineup inspired by design cues of the original 1957 Breitling Superocean (like the unusual hour hand and hour markers).
Two variants were offered: one fully in stainless steel, and one with a rose gold bezel and hour markers. The two-tone one was limited to 500 pieces. The relatively modest (but totally sufficient) 100m depth rating allows for a very wearable case height of about 10mm.
The subtle copper dials on the The Superocean Heritage ’57 Outerknown look nice, but these are definitely the least distinctive of Breitling’s Kelly Slater-related watches. The Superocean Heritage ’57 Highlands ref. U10340E31A1A1 looks similar at a glance, for instance.
Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 Kelly Slater (2022)
Reference number: A173751A1O1S1 2025 secondhand value: $7,000 Limited to: 1,000 pieces
In 2022, Breitling released their first watch truly co-designed by Kelly Slater himself, and the first watch with “Kelly Slater” officially in the name. The Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 Kelly Slater has an orange dial with lime green accents, inspired by a watch worn by his late father.
While used Outerknown versions resell for well under MSRP, the orange Kelly Slater Breitling can easily go for 25% over its list price of $5,400. That lime green/orange combo, while counterintuitive, clearly speaks to some collectors. This is part of the current generation of Superocean models, which have ceramic bezel inserts as well as Sellita-based movements. The design (particularly the minute hand) is a nod to the old Slow Motion Superocean.
Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater (2025)
Reference numbers: AB31101A1C1A1, AB31101A1C1S1 2025 MSRP: $6,450 (+$300 for mesh bracelet) Limited to 500 pieces
Among Breitling’s 2025 releases was the second Kelly Slater collab, featuring a tropical floral dial motif that pays homage to Kelly’s home state of Hawaii. The Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater, limited to 500 pieces, is the first Kelly Slater Breitling with an exhibition caseback. It’s also the first one with an in-house movement–the previous Kelly Slater/Outerknown versions were all ETA-based.
The floral Kelly Slater dial adds $250 to the typical $6,200 base price of the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40. Opting for a mesh bracelet, with a butterfly clasp and nicely tapered endlinks (no lug gap!), adds an additional $300. The standard rubber strap has a mesh-like pattern and comes with a simpler folding clasp. With a case height comfortably under 12mm, I expect this to be a popular release. Let’s compare the specs of all the Kelly Slater-related Superoceans now:

While plenty of wristwatch-endorsing celebrities are rather halfhearted about it, the Breitling/Kelly Slater relationship seems more authentic than most. And while few question Slater’s status as the GOAT of competitive surfing, one of the few other people you can even mention in that discussion is also a Breitling ambassador–8-time world women’s surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore. While Breitling has yet to release a Stephanie Gilmore edition, we’ll certainly keep you posted about any more watch releases related to what was once known as the “Breitling Surfer Squad.”
