MB&F (Maximilan Büsser & Friends) is one of the most innovative and highly respected (and highly priced) independent watch brands in the world. MB&F’s avant-garde and unusual designs are often described as “mechanical art.” But although they’re a darling of the watch world, most enthusiasts can’t afford the $75,000-$300,000 price tag. So they started making a line of relatively affordable (under $4,000) M.A.D.Editions as a bit of a thank you to the watch nerdscape, and demand was so overwhelming for the M.A.D.1 and M.A.D.2 models that they had to implement a raffle system. And on September 1, M.A.D.Editions started taking raffle signups for the M.A.D.3 Vincent Calabrese, a wandering jump hours watch.

What Kind of Watch is the M.A.D.3 Vincent Calabrese?

Vincent Calabrese is a watchmaking legend with numerous innovations to his name, including the first sapphire-cased luxury watches. Recently he’s been getting attention for his unusual jump hour watches, so it makes sense that the M.A.D.3 x Vincent Calabrese watch is a more affordable (~$3,800) interpretation of his “Baladin” Wandering Jump Hours, which is pretty badass.

M.A.D.Editions watches are all about displaying the time in unusual ways, and the M.A.D.3 VIncent Calabrese is no exception. The hour is displayed numerically, as jump hours typically do. But on most jump hours watches, the hour sits in one place. With Calabrese’s design, the hour display rotates around the dial, acting as the minute hand. And check out that lume, which is actually applied on the underside of a sapphire rehaut:

How Many Will Be Made?

“A few thousand” is a reasonable estimate for the production of the M.A.D.3 Vincent Calabrese collab. So far M.A.D.Editions has made about 15,000 watches between all the different colorways/editions of the M.A.D.1 and M.A.D.2. So if you miss out on this raffle, don’t worry; a raffle for another color will probably come eventually. But given how strong the demand is for these, don’t get your hopes up.
