The Vacheron Constantin Overseas ref. 7700V, offered from 2016 until about 2022, is the only World Time watch to ever appear in the popular sporty integrated-bracelet Overseas lineup. Produced exclusively in a stainless steel case with a 43.5mm diameter, perhaps its relatively large size and busy dial have led to its status as a somewhat overlooked and underappreciated reference. But we feel the 7700V is an excellent execution of a worldtimer, and a great luxury sports watch overall. Here’s our guide to the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time.

About the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time 7700V

Movement

The movements in most world time watches “click” between the 24 primary time zones. But there are actually 13 partial-hour time zones in the world, which is a bit of a problem for those traditional worldtimers. The Caliber 2460 WT inside the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time can handle all 37, which involves some complex gearing because some of them have 15-minute offsets and others have 30.

Caliber 2460 WT, based on the automatic 2460 SC which itself debuted in 2005, first appeared in 2011 in the Traditionelle Patrimony ref. 86060. And in 2016 it appeared here in ref. 7700v soon after the launch of the base third-generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas–the first Overseas models to feature in-house movements.

There are no push-buttons on the case; everything is controlled with the crown. Set your time zone by aligning your home city (or one in its time zone) with the triangle on the bezel at 6 o’clock, then setting the time.

The lack of date keeps everything relatively simple. The level of finishing is excellent, as expected on movements bearing the Geneva Seal. The compass rose motif on the textured gold rotor is a nice touch.

Another nice touch is the translucent sapphire disc overlaying the Lambert projection of the Northern Hemisphere in the center of the dial. Half of it is tinted grey (with the darkest part almost black) to represent night, synced to the rotation of the 24-hour ring around the dial.

This ref. 7700V has a silver dial, which looks quite white in some lighting conditions.

All in all, the 7700v gives a very coherent view of the time all over the world–or at least the northern half of it.

Bracelet/Strap

Notably, in addition to its recognizable and widely-loved integrated stainless steel bracelet, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time came with two complimentary straps: one rubber, and one alligator leather. The silver-dial models get black straps, while the straps of the blue and brown versions match the dial.

The bracelet/strap can be removed easily with VC’s proprietary quick‑release system, which allows tool‑free strap and bracelet changes thanks to integrated push‑tabs on the back of the lugs.

The watch was only sold with one deployant clasp between the two straps, so switching between alligator and rubber won’t be quite as quick unless you buy another deployant. Most owners seem to favor rubber and bracelet over the alligator strap.

Wearability of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time 7700V

Despite its impressive movement, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time 7700V has a very manageable case height of 12.6mm–roughly equal to the thickness of a Rolex Submariner. So it can be a comfortable watch even if you don’t have huge wrists, but with a 51mm lug-to-lug measurement, I wouldn’t recommend it for wrists much under 6.5″ in diameter.

Like all Vacheron Constantin Overseas models aside from high complications and ultra-thin models, ref. 7700V has a screwdown crown. So, with 150m of water resistance, this is a proper sports watch.

Out of the three dial colors–blue, silver and brown–brown is by far the most rare, and blue dials tend to sell for more than silver ones. Regardless of your dial choice, though, the 7700V is arguably one of the best values for an integrated-bracelet luxury watch in its price range.
