Collector’s Guide to the Chopard Alpine Eagle

Despite a slew of competitors in the angular integrated-bracelet luxury watch space, the Chopard Alpine Eagle family has been steadily gaining momentum since its 2019 debut. With plentiful attractive dial options and a total of four available sizes–33mm, 36mm, 41mm and 44mm–the Alpine Eagle has been offered in numerous variations. We’ll break it all down.

Three of the most popular Chopard Alpine Eagle models

Lineup Overview

The integrated bracelet, 8 bezel screws, and luxury pricing of the Chopard Alpine Eagle all draw inevitable comparisons to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. But the Alpine Eagle certainly stands on its own. When it comes to complications, the Alpine Eagle lineup is fairly straightforward. Most are simple three-hand models, and 33mm and 36mm models are time-only.

44mm Chopard Alpine Eagles are all “XL Chrono” models with three chronograph registers and a 4:30 date window. The date wheels are always color-matched to the dial, which is a nice touch.

41mm is the “core” Alpine Eagle size. While most Alpine Eagle 41’s have a date at 4:30, there are also flying tourbillon models, ultra-thin models, and a couple of limited editions that have no date. Plus there are some notable “Cadence 8HF” models that tick 16 times per second–twice the industry standard.

There are no GMT’s, worldtimers, annual calendars, dive bezels or power reserve indicators to be found in the Chopard Alpine Eagle family.

Bracelet/Strap

Rubber straps are the norm on the XL Chrono, but a few versions get bracelet options and one rose gold model has leather. Three special 41mm references have also been offered on rubber, but aside from that, all Chopard Alpine Eagle watches have three-link metal integrated bracelets.

Chopard Alpine Eagle butterfly clasp

Neither quick-release functionality nor micro-adjust clasps are found anywhere in the Alpine Eagle lineup, but bracelet models do have sleek hidden butterfly clasps. Rubber strap models have simple tang (pin) buckles.

Dial and Materials

Aside from a few rare limited editions, Alpine Eagle dials have a stamped “eagle iris” texture. It’s similar to the Grand Seiko dial texture known as “Mt. Iwate.” Chopard finishes these dials with either a galvanic treatment (electroplating) or a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process, depending on the color.

Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 8HF
This stamped “eagle iris” texture is on almost every Chopard Alpine Eagle.

All steel Chopard Alpine Eagle models are made from Lucent Steel A223. This alloy is exclusive to Chopard, features 70-80% recycled content, and is noted for being harder, shinier, and more hypoallergenic than conventional stainless steel. Alpine Eagles have also been made in two-tone (gold and steel), solid gold (in all three hues), platinum, and titanium (both with and without a ceramic outer coating).

Chopard Alpine Eagle Price

List prices of standard stainless steel models start at $12,900 for the Chopard Alpine Eagle 33, $13,400 for the 36, and $17,000 for the 41. Choosing two-tone roughly increases the price by 1.5x, while solid gold is closer to 4x. The XL Chrono starts at $23,200.

Tourbillon models and gem-set versions reach over $100,000, with prices just barely reaching into seven-figure territory with the baguette-saturated Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 Frozen Summit.

Watches like the Alpine Eagle 41 Frozen Summit earned Chopard a spot on our list of the world’s most expensive watch brands. Photo: Chopard

As a rule of thumb, true market value of a Chopard Alpine Eagle in excellent condition is usually 75-80% of its list price, although some limited editions can sell for more.

Before I break down all the Chopard Alpine Eagle models by size largest-to-smallest, I should clarify the difference between L.U.C. movements and “regular” Chopard movements.

L.U.C. vs. Fleurier Ebauches

Chopard opened an in-house movement factory known as Fleurier Ebauches in 2008, and they make the majority of Chopard’s movements today. But Chopard’s upscale “L.U.C.” movements are still made at the Chopard Manufacture facility that opened in 1996. That’s where their haute horology movements are made, including those used in the flying tourbillon and ultra-thin versions of the Chopard Alpine Eagle 41. Every other Alpine Eagle movement–even for the Cadence 8HF–is made at Fleurier Ebauches.

All movements made at Chopard Manufacture are designated as L.U.C calibers and start with “L.U.C,” which stands for Louis-Ulysse Chopard, the brand’s founder. The two factories are both located on the same street in Fleurier, in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. They’re only 1/8th of a mile apart, with nothing but a hydraulic crane dealership between them.

Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono

The Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono first appeared in 2020, one year after the original Alpine Eagle. Inside the 44mm case is the in-house Chopard Caliber 03.05-C, an automatic flyback chronograph movement with a vertical clutch and column wheel. The 03.05-C has three patents, a 60-hour power reserve, and chronometer certification.

It looks good through the exhibition caseback, although its finishing isn’t as exquisite as that of L.U.C. calibers. Steel versions on rubber straps start at $23,200 with either a blue or black dial, with the three-link Lucent steel bracelet adding $1,700. An attractive maritime blue version debuted in 2023 and was only sold at Chopard boutiques:

I should also mention ref. 295387-9001, which is notable for being the only Alpine Eagle that comes on a leather strap, and also for its hybrid case made of both 18k rose gold and ceramicized titanium (or “ceramised” to our British friends). Like Panerai’s Ti-Ceramitech, Chopard’s ceramicized titanium involves an electrolytic plasma oxidation process that creates a hard ceramic oxide layer on the titanium’s surface. Combining titanium’s strength with ceramic’s scratch resistance makes a lot of sense.

The only Alpine Eagle XL Chrono with a fully titanium case came in 2024 as another boutique exclusive. Its black subdials contrast nicely with the rest of the ice blue (“Rhône Blue”) dial.

Alpine XL Chrono models are 44mm wide, 51.6mm lug-to-lug, and 13.15mm thick. That’s actually thinner than most of their competition in the automatic luxury chronograph world.

Chopard Alpine Eagle 41mm

The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 is the size with the most variants by far. Even among a slew of other turquoise luxury watches, the Alpine Eagle 41 Maritime Blue got plenty of attention from enthusiasts upon its release in 2022. It is now discontinued, and so is the Rock Jasmine (pink) version along with several other limited editions in various colors.

That leaves black, Bernina grey, dark blue and pine green as the current options for steel bracelet Alpine Eagle 41mm models. Steel models cost $17,000, with two-tone models starting at $28,000 and solid gold models listing for $69,300 and up.

Alpine Eagle 41 Rubber Strap Versions

Only three Alpine Eagle 41’s have been offered on rubber straps, and all three were released in 2025. There are two Beach Editions, which are Maritime Blue and Jasmine Pink versions with rubber straps that match their dials. Then there’s the SL Cadence 8HF version, a 2025 GPHG award winner with a black-on-black aesthetic, orange accents and a movement ticking 16 times per second inside. It’s the first Chopard with a case entirely made of ceramicized titanium.

Other Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF Models

The SL isn’t the only Cadence 8HF version of the Alpine Eagle, however. A limited grey-dial version was released in 2021 with a grade 5 (non-ceramicized) titanium case and bracelet. It has since been replaced by a regular-production black-dial equivalent which lists for $25,300.

The first Alpine Eagle 41 Cadence 8HF, ref. 298600-3005, debuted in 2021 with a fully titanium case and bracelet. It was limited to 250 pieces and replaced by a non-limited version with a black dial.

There was also an orange version released as the brand’s second collaboration with Art in Time, limited to only eight pieces.

Extra Thin Models (XP)

Chopard has released four extra plat (extra thin) versions of the Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 so far, and all are time-only models with beautiful L.U.C. movements and metal bracelets. The Alpine Eagle 41 XPS (with the “s” meaning “subseconds”) came in 2023 with a tan/salmon dial and a Lucent steel case and bracelet. Its $29,100 list price is almost identical to that of an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and its quality is legitimately in the same ballpark.

A one-of-one TimeForArt edition was made soon after for a charity auction, and it has no seconds hand at all. Neither does the Alpine Eagle 41 XP TT, a skeletonized titanium model that debuted in 2024. The fully platinum XP CS (for “center seconds”) was launched in 2025 with an eye-watering $127,500 list price.

The L.U.C. movements inside these XP models are all exquisitely finished and feature 22k gold micro-rotors.

Chopard Alpine Eagle Flying Tourbillon

Chopard released their first traditional tourbillon in 2003, and their first flying tourbillon (with no visible upper bridge above the tourbillon cage) in 2019. The Alpine Eagle lineup didn’t get a tourbillon option until 2022. Chopard makes the Alpine Eagle 41 Flying Tourbillon exclusively in Lucent Steel, with dark or light blue (“Rhône Blue”) dials being the only standard options. List price is $145,500.

Chopard also makes two examples per year with reddish-chocolate dials: “One piece per year for Monaco gallery and one piece per year for Courchevel gallery,” according to Timekeepers Club. The stunning L.U.C 96.24-L movement inside all of them is only 3.3mm thick.

Chopard Alpine Eagle 36mm

The Chopard Alpine Eagle 36 debuted alongside the 41mm model in 2019. Although it is marketed as a unisex size, almost every version of the Alpine Eagle 36 has a gem-set bezel. Only three out of the 17 references produced have plain bezels–a steel one, a rose gold one, and a discontinued two-tone one.

The diamond-covered “Frozen” models only display the hours and minutes, but all other Alpine Eagles smaller than 41mm show the hours, minutes and seconds. Complications are reserved for the bigger sizes.

Chopard Alpine Eagle 33

Unveiled in 2022, the Chopard Alpine Eagle 33 has the simplest lineup of the four sizes. Lucent steel and two-tone models are offered with and without gem-set bezels, while the solid gold options are all gem-set. There is no platinum in the Alpine Eagle 33 family. At this size, there is only one dial choice per metal/gem configuration.

The Alpine Eagle 33 is powered by the same time-only automatic Chopard caliber 09.01-C as the 36. Only nine variants of the Chopard Alpine Eagle 33 have been made so far, and all of them are regular production models.

Technically Chopard also considers the Alpine Eagle 33 a unisex model, but if they’re serious about attracting men to this size I think they should offer more than two references without gem-set bezels.

Although there is plentiful competition in the world of integrated-bracelet luxury watches–like the AP Royal Oak, Patek Philippe Nautilus, A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus, IWC Ingenieur, Zenith Defy Skyline, Rolex Land-Dweller and Girard-Perregaux Laureato to name a few–the attractive dials and outstanding finishing of the Chopard Alpine Eagle have earned it a place at the table.
