Cartier 2024 Releases: Privé Tortue, Santos, Reflection de Cartier & Animal Jewelry Watches
Cartier has unveiled its newest offerings for 2024, experimenting, per usual, with shapes and innovative movements and pushing the boundaries of the brand’s already exceptional craftsmanship. The latest collection is nicely varied, including the mind-bending Reflection de Cartier, several gem-set animal watches for collectors with bold style, a new Cartier Privé for 2024, and new Santos collections. We have all the details.

Cartier Privé Tortue
The Cartier Privé, or the “collectors’ collection” as the brand describes it, celebrates a different model from the Cartier archives each year. The collection is incredibly exclusive, usually only featuring a few designs in limited quantities. Last year was all about the OG Cartier Tank, the Normale, and for 2024, the spotlight is on the Cartier Tortue. Five thoughtfully developed designs pay homage to the original 1912 Cartier Tortue with similar apple-shaped hands and a distinctive rail track circling the hour markers. At the same time, the newer models are sleeker and lighter and house incredibly sophisticated calibers.
Cartier Privé Tortue Hours/Minutes
The new collection can be broken into two categories, the first being the Tortue Hours/Minutes model with three designs total – one in yellow gold with a blue alligator leather strap and two in platinum with red alligator leather straps. The gold model keeps it classic with a blue cabochon crown and black Roman numeral hour makers, while both platinum Tortue watches feature striking rhodium-plated hour markers to match the silvery finish of the platinum case.
Of the two platinum models, one sports a smooth, undecorated bezel and a ruby cabochon, and the other is surrounded by a diamond-encrusted bezel and has a diamond-set crown to match. All three watches are powered by the manual-wind caliber 430 MC, tailored to fit inside the unique Tortue case.

Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph
The other category is the Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph, an interpretation of the single-button chronograph that initially debuted within the Tortue collection in 1928. Inside the new collection is the Manufacture 1928 MC caliber, which couples the chronograph’s start, stop, and reset functions into one mechanism that can be activated with a single push of the crown.’
“Most will say it’s all about the Santos, with the dual time taking center stage. For me, Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph in platinum for sure.”
Roman Sharf, CEO of Luxury Bazaar
At just 4.3mm thick, the movement is Cartier’s thinnest chronograph. It’s also beautifully decorated with Côte de Genève, which we have a nice view of through the exhibition case back. The Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph has dial and strap configurations similar to the Hours/Minutes models and is available in yellow gold or platinum.

Cartier Santos Collection
The Santos collection continues to change how aviators and watch enthusiasts keep time while traversing the globe with the new Santos-Dumont Rewind and Santos de Cartier Dual Time. The 2024 collection is innovative, contemporary, and perhaps a bit controversial, all without forsaking the heritage that has made it a watch box staple.
Cartier Santos de Cartier Dual Time
The Cartier Santos is often considered the first pilot wristwatch, developed in the early 1900s for Brazilian aviator and close friend of the Cartier family Alberto Santos-Dumont. With roots deeply planted in aviation, the 2024 Dual Time model is right at home within the Santos collection. It has the contemporary Roman numeral dial and ergonomic lines we’re used to seeing within the current production lineup, but with a small grey counter at 6 o’clock featuring an additional hour hand for a second time zone and an AM/PM indicator.
The stainless steel model is driven by a self-winding mechanical movement and is available with a matching metal bracelet or a leather strap, which can be easily swapped via Cartier’s convenient QuickSwitch system.

Cartier Santos-Dumont Rewind
Your eyes aren’t deceiving you; the Santos-Dumont Rewind quite literally tells time backward and has given new meaning to the phrase, “turn back the hands of time.” It pays homage to the original 1904 Santos with a similar design set and muse Alberto Santos-Dumont’s signature engraved on the case back.
Additionally, the Roman numeral hour markers are situated counterclockwise on the dial and the caliber 230 MC and its apple-shaped hands operate on reversed manual winding. It’s an unconventional design that won’t be for every collector – we can assume that is why this platinum Cartier 2024 release will be limited to just 200 pieces.

Cartier Santos-Dumont Limited Edition
Cartier certainly didn’t shy away from color in 2024, most notably the Limited Edition Santos-Dumont. The case and bezel are coated in an impossibly thin layer (less than a thousandth of a millimeter) of lacquer to match the leather strap and brilliant sunray-brushed dial. The famous screw heads that define the Santos collection are still visible on the bezel.
However, the bezel now features a unique framed architecture to accommodate the lacquer, and the traditional Roman numeral hour markers have been swapped for Arabic numerals. The Cartier 2024 Santos-Dumont Limited Edition collection includes three models: platinum/olive green, rose gold/blue peacock, and yellow gold/taupe grey.

Reflection de Cartier
The master of shaped watches continues to push the boundaries of traditional watchmaking with the mind-melting Reflection de Cartier. The watch is equal parts high jewelry and a reliable timepiece featuring an openwork cuff-style bracelet and a quartz-powered movement. The dial sits on one end of the cuff and is met with its reflection on the other. Cartier touts the masterpiece as full and empty, curved and angular – a juxtaposition only Cartier could achieve.
The collection includes two undecorated models, one in rose gold and one in yellow gold. Three models in rhodium finish white gold are also included: one glittering with diamonds in a dynamic snow and inverted setting and two more adorned with diamonds, colorful gemstones, and iridescent lacquer.

Animal Jewelry Watches
Cartier has been incorporating the panther into its watchmaking designs, literally and more abstractly, for over a century. Other exotic animals, including the crocodile, tiger, emblematic panther, and zebra, lend their charismatic forms to the menagerie of 2024 animal jewelry watches. Each is decorated with hand-set diamonds and gemstones and features a reliable quartz movement.
We’ve seen many of the animalistic themes featured in the 2024 lineup before. For example, Cartier has added a new edition of the Panther Jewelry watch from previous years to its portfolio, which depicts a diamond-encrusted panther lounging atop a round, gem-set case. Another instantly recognizable and recurring theme is that of the animal head biting down onto fixed bars on the ends of the case, which Cartier has incorporated into the new lineup with panther, crocodile, and tiger models.

That sums up Cartier’s 2024 Watches and Wonders releases. But there was one more quiet Cartier release towards the end of the year.
Tank Must Solarbeat V2
The original version of the Tank Must Solarbeat debuted in 2020 to much fanfare because of its 16-year battery life and the photovoltaic cells under its dial. Tiny perforations in the Roman numerals allowed light to get through, but perhaps not enough light–some owners reported issues with their watches holding a charge, and the unserviceable movements raised eyebrows among collectors. The Tank Must Solarbeat V2 came out in November 2024, this time with micro-perforations on the entire dial. The photovoltaic cells, now attached to the movement instead of the dial, were also upgraded. So far V2 seems like a worthy improvement. Stay up to date with Cartier’s 2025 releases to see what else they have in store.
