Tudor Pelagos Collector’s Guide: Every Pelagos Reference Explained

Ana Tenenbaum Tuesday, April 1st, 2025 12 min. read

The Pelagos, Tudor’s titanium diver, has only been in production since 2012. Compared to other giants in the dive watch industry, such as the Rolex Submariner, Omega Seamaster, and Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, which have decades of production under their belts, that is just a mere blip on the radar. Still, the Pelagos has made a big impression on collectors with its refreshing approach to the traditional dive watch aesthetic. In this guide, we will cover everything you need to know about the collection, making our way through every Tudor Pelagos model in order of production.

Three watches

An Overview of the Tudor Pelagos

2012 was a big year for Tudor. Not only did the company release the Pelagos, but it also rolled out the history-rich Black Bay, deeply inspired by vintage Tudor dive watches. The celebrated ETA 2824 movement powered both dive watch collections. However, the Pelagos had greater water resistance and was produced in titanium. It fact, it was the first model in the Rolex and Tudor catalogs to ever feature a titanium case.

Tudor eventually transitioned the Pelagos to an in-house caliber in 2015. As of 2024, Tudor has produced nine different iterations of the collection, all of them being highly legible dive watches with lumed bezel inserts and lightweight case materials. With a relatively affordable price point and a focus on wearability and legibility, some collectors feel the Pelagos line is carrying on the “tool watch” tradition that the Rolex Submariner has left behind.

Tudor Pelagos Ref. 25500TN

OG Pelagos
The original Pelagos, ref. 25500TN. Image: Tudor

The now-discontinued ref. 25500TN ushered in the Pelagos collection in 2012, featuring a design heavily inspired by vintage Tudor Oyster Prince Submariners, right down to the Tudor Shield logo, chunky square hour markers, and diamond-tipped “Snowflake” hands. At the same time, the design avoids being overly “retro.” The unidirectional bezel has a tough ceramic insert, a sapphire crystal covers the dial, and the robust 42mm case is in matte grey titanium with sleek, beveled edges. There’s also something about the flange surrounding the dial that is inherently modern. It adds dimension to the watch by displaying the minute hashes slightly higher than the luminescent hour markers, the latter of which are cut into the flange itself.

Tudor Submariners were no larger than 40mm, but the larger case of the Pelagos accommodates a Helium Escape Valve and better water resistance–up to 500 meters. The first-generation Pelagos wasn’t afforded an in-house movement and instead relies on the ETA 2824 automatic movement. Keen-eye collectors will also notice that the dial on ref. 25500TN only has two lines of text, compared to current-production models, which have five. The additional text would say “Pelagos Chronometer Officially Certified.” This small detail makes distinguishing between the first Pelagos and its successors easy.

Tudor Pelagos Ref. 25600TN (Black) & Ref. 25600TB (Blue)

Tudor officially switched the Pelagos collection to an in-house movement in 2015 with the advent of references 25600TN (black) and 25600TB (the first-ever blue Pelagos). With the switch to the caliber MT5612, the newer models were afforded a longer 70-hour power reserve (compared to 38) and received extra lines of text on the dial to signify that the in-house movement was COSC-rated.

Tudor slightly modified the case back to better accommodate the slightly thicker, then-new movement. Aside from those upgrades (and the new blue color option), the second generation of Pelagos changed little, still sporting a 42mm case in lightweight titanium with the same striking luminescent hands and hour markers.

Tudor Pelagos LHD Ref. 25610TNL

A left-hand drive model (“LHD”) joined the Pelagos lineup in 2016 via ref. 25610TNL. This model came with a few noteworthy cosmetic changes. Most notable of course is the crown, which has moved from the right side of the case to the left to better serve Tudor’s loyal southpaw following.

Tudor Pelagos LHD

Tudor also seemingly took cues from parent company Rolex by emblazoning the dial with a bright red “Pelagos” logo. Additionally, Tudor swapped the stark white luminescent material and calendar window for an off-white/beige color and traded the traditional black date wheel for red and black roulette, design choices seemingly inspired by vintage Tudor Submariner watches.

Tudor Pelagos FXD Ref. 25707B

Tudor added a model with fixed strap bars to the Pelagos’ ever-growing line-up in 2021, nicknamed “FXD,” a charming abbreviation of “FiXeD.” The model celebrates the brand’s storied past with the Marine Nationale (French Navy), incorporating several specifications required for underwater navigation by the military’s combat swimmers. The model’s signature feature, arguably, is a one-piece fabric strap made of woven polyethylene. It attaches to the case through slots at each lug, a design choice made partly to prevent the strap from falling off if a spring bar breaks while diving.

The bezel also features a special combat-ready design with an inverted diving scale, a more generously serrated edge, and a slightly wider diameter than the rest of the case, allowing for an easy grip while wearing thick gloves. Because the FXD was developed for diving navigation (which sometimes requires resetting the elapsed time) rather than simply timing diving events, it forgoes the traditional unidirectional design of the rest of the Pelagos collection in favor of a bidirectional bezel.

The case measures 42mm like the previous models but is now slightly thinner and rated waterproof only to 200 meters instead of 500 meters. That means there is no Helium Escape Valve, simply because Marine nationale combat divers do not need to travel that far below the ocean’s surface. Tudor also cleaned up the dial a bit for better legibility by removing the date display and flange surrounding the hour markers. That also means a new movement, the caliber MT5602, which the FXD borrowed from the Black Bay collection.

Tudor Pelagos 39 Ref. 25407N

Tudor has been embracing smaller case sizes more recently, including a Pelagos with a trimmed-down 39mm case that debuted in 2022. That also means several changes to the typical Pelagos format, such as skipping the standard Helium Escape Valve (which means only 200 meters of water resistance) and embracing a less-is-more aesthetic for the dial by omitting the date display and the flange around the hour markers and featuring just four lines of text instead of five.

Pelagos 39

While previous iterations of the Pelagos had a contemporary matte dial and bezel to match the brushed titanium, the 39mm model stands apart from the rest with a slightly more radiant brushed satin finish. It also features a different movement than the rest of the titanium dive watch family, the caliber MT5400.

Tudor Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition” Ref. 25707KN

Tudor teamed up with Alinghi Red Bull Racing to bring the watch-collecting community a unique edition of the Pelagos FXD and one with connections to competitive yacht racing. While the rest of the Pelagos collection uses titanium, the “Red Bull” FXD’s sport a harmonious blend of carbon, titanium, and stainless steel, not too unlike the hull of the Alinghi AC75 yacht. From the black, blue, and red color scheme and the “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” logo printed along the dial flange to the unique fixed lugs, Tudor has found a tasteful way to incorporate the essence of both the FXD and the AC75 into one truly fascinating watch.

The Alinghi Red Bull Racing collaboration included two models: the time-only ref. 25707KN and the chronograph ref. 25807KN, the first time the complication has been made available to the Pelagos collection. It has all the same trappings as the time-only model, including the striking AC75-inspired hues and carbon, titanium, and stainless steel finish, but with the added functionality of a chronograph movement and a slightly larger case to accommodate it.

Tudor released a new black Pelagos FXD in 2023, this time with connections to the U.S. Navy and a unidirectional diver’s bezel. To refresh your memory, the original FXD released in 2021 has a bidirectional bezel and an inverted 60-minute diver’s scale to accommodate the needs of combat divers.

Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Cycling Edition”

2024 marked the first time the Tudor Pro Cycling Team participated in the Giro d’Italia, an occasion the Swiss watchmaker (and official timekeeper of the event) commemorated with this edition of the Pelagos. Like the Alinghi Red Bull Racing edition of the FXD, the latest model is cased in matte black carbon composite but sports a fixed bezel instead of one that rotates. Additionally, it has reduced water resistance, down to 100 meters instead of 200 meters, and the dial is decorated with what the brand calls a “cycling-specific tachymeter scale” that helps the rider record their average speed during the race in the team’s colors.

Other features include the in-house caliber MT5813 automatic mechanical movement, a flat sapphire crystal, and a single-piece black fabric strap. With the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition and now the Chrono Cycling Edition, Tudor has established the FXD as a foundation for celebrating the brand’s influence in sporting excellence.

Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT

The most recent addition to the Pelagos fold is the FXD GMT. It sports the same fixed spring bars as previous FXD models but with a green colorway inspired by the French Navy’s Aéronautique Navale division and true GMT functionality. For comparison, many models in this guide feature a 60-minute bezel. The new FXD GMT has a 24-hour graduated bezel and an additional centrally-mounted hand. In total, the wearer can read up to three timezones, including the standard reference time for pilots called “Zulu time,” the wearer’s local time, and a third-time zone.

The FXD GMT “Zulu Time” offering is presented in lightweight grade 2 titanium. It features a black ceramic bezel with a luminescent 24-hour scale, a matching black dial with an orange GMT hand, and a khaki NATO strap decorated with the Aéronautique Navale logo. It’s a fascinating tribute to Tudor’s storied partnership with the Marine Nationale that brings a slightly different aesthetic to the FXD collection. It was also the first Pelagos model to receive Master Chronometer certification.

Pelagos Ultra

The Pelagos Ultra, unveiled in 2025, is essentially Tudor’s equivalent of the Rolex Sea-Dweller. It has a helium escape valve that allows for an extreme water resistance rating of 1,000m. Like the Sea-Dweller, its diameter is 43mm, but the Tudor is made of grade 2 titanium (which is commercially pure titanium) with a grade 5 titanium caseback (an alloy, which is more durable).

Tudor remarks that “the dial has been scaled up for legibility. The hands are thicker, the markers are bigger, and the minute hand boasts green luminescence along with the PIP.” The other hands, along with the dial and the rest of the bezel insert, have blue lume.

The contrasting lume on the Ultra looks awesome

The The $6,100 price tag of the Pelagos Ultra includes a complimentary rubber strap with a simple tang buckle. The coolest thing about this watch might be the new clasp on the bracelet: it’s the first time Tudor has added a diver’s extension to their T-Fit clasp. There’s a clever indicator on the outside that shows where it’s currently adjusted.

As we’ve come to expect with Tudor releases at this point, the Pelagos Ultra is a certified Master Chronometer. I can’t think of any other brand making titanium watches with specs like this for under $6,000.
