Omega Seamaster 75th Anniversary Collection: 11 Summer Blue Watches

Celine Simon Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 6 min. read

2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the Omega Seamaster, so we expected something big from the popular Swiss watchmaker. After all, Omega is not one to pass up an anniversary! And indeed, Omega dropped a Summer Blue Seamaster capsule collection with seven new models (spread across 11 watches) with new color gradient dials and casebacks to highlight the expansive range of its famed water-ready Seamaster line. To emphasize the different water resistance ratings of the various Seamaster models, let’s dive into each of these 75th Anniversary Seamaster Summer Blue Watches.

Blue Dials, Commemorative Casebacks

As the name of the capsule collection suggests, each of the Summer Blue Seamaster watches is fitted with a blue dial. However, they’re not all the same blue tone. Omega has opted to go from lighter blue shades to darker, depending on how deep the watch can go. For instance, the 150-meter-rated Aqua Terra models feature lighter blue dials while the 6,000-meter-rated Ultra-Deep model includes a much darker blue dial. Layers of varnish are added to achieve the desired effect.

As for the back of the watches, the Summer Blue Seamaster editions all feature commemorative casebacks with a depiction of Poseidon (the Greek god of the sea, also known as Neptune in Roman mythology) and two seahorses. As you may already know, the seahorse has been part of the Seamaster’s logo since the 1950s. It was designed by Jean-Pierre Borle after he went to Venice and saw that all the city’s gondolas included mythological seahorses (known as the hippocampus) for protection.

What’s more, to match the color theme, Omega filled the hands and hour markers of the Summer Blue watches with a light blue Super-LumiNova.

Omega Summer Blue Aqua Terra 150M

For the 75th Seamaster Anniversary, Omega has created three Summer Blue Aqua Terra watches: a ladies’ version with a 38mm case and two men’s versions with 41mm cases. All three versions include stainless steel cases, which like all Aqua Terra watches, are water-resistant to 150 meters (500 feet). As always, these Aqua Terra 150 models include date windows on the dials that sit at the 6 o’clock position. The 41mm models feature a sun-brushed horizontal dial motif and slightly trapezoidal date windows, while the 38mm variant has a paler dial without stripes and a round date window.

Omega Summer Blue Aqua Terra Worldtimer

The anniversary Summer Blue Aqua Terra Worldtimer features a 43mm steel case and is available available on a matching bracelet or blue rubber strap. As is customary for the Omega Worldtimer, at the center of the Summer Blue gradient dial is a striking depiction of Earth viewed from above, complete with a blue ocean and relief of the continents. The periphery of the dial is home to the city ring while towards the center is the 24-hour ring, which goes from light to blue depending on if it’s day or night.

Omega Summer Blue Seamaster 300

The anniversary Summer Blue Seamaster 300, which is loosely based on the first Seamaster 300 from 1957, features a 41mm steel case with a matching steel bracelet. As the name implies, the watch is water-resistant to 300 meters, and to illustrate that higher depth rating, Omega made the varnished Summer Blue gradient dial darker than the previous Aqua Terra models. The unidirectional timing bezel is also rendered in blue, as are the markings on the bezel.

Omega Summer Blue Seamaster Diver 300M

Omega’s flagship modern dive watch gets the same Summer Blue anniversary treatment, available either with a steel bracelet or blue rubber strap. The Diver 300M watches retain the signature 42mm case size, ceramic unidirectional bezel with scalloped edges, and wave-patterned ceramic dial. However, in keeping with the anniversary theme, the dial benefits from the varnished gradient finish, the lume is light blue, and the commemorative caseback includes the trident-bearing Poseidon. The steel case is topped with a Grand feu enamel blue ceramic bezel, which of course only turns in one direction for safety precautions and is marked with a 60-minute scale to track dive times.

Omega Summer Blue Planet Ocean 600M

The Planet Ocean, which is Omega’s more serious line of diving watches rated to dive to 600 meters, also gets shrouded in Summer Blue for the 75th anniversary of the Seamaster. As we’re getting into deeper territory, the vertical brushed ceramic dial, which is PVD treated and varnished, goes a step darker. On top of the 39.5mm steel case is a blue ceramic bezel with light blue graduations, which match the light blue-lumed dial details perfectly.

Omega Summer Blue Ploprof 1200M

Omega’s most unconventional diving watch is back in Summer Blue style. This commemorative Ploprof (from PLOngeur PROfessionnel, French for “professional diver”) retains its characteristic asymmetrical case, measuring 55mm by 45mm.

The case is not only fashioned from O-MEGASTEEL, which is the brand’s proprietary durable stainless steel alloy, but it also brings back the monobloc construction of the 1970s version. The one-piece monobloc case is home to a winding crown on the left and an oversized security pusher at 2 o’clock. There’s also the sapphire crystal bezel ring to echo early Ploprof models but this version includes blue varnish on the back and a light blue timing scale. Leaning into the seventies aesthetic is the blue perforated rubber strap.

Omega Summer Blue Planet Ocean 6000M Ultra-Deep

Finally, rounding out the 75th anniversary Seamaster collection is a Summer Blue version of Omega’s most extreme saturation dive watch — the Planet Ocean Ultra-Deep, which is rated to an incredible 6,000 meters. This commemorative Planet Ocean Ultra Deep features a 45.5mm O-MEGASTEEL case, paired with a matching steel bracelet. However, the star of the show is the dial, home to an accurate representation of the bottom of the Challenger Deep, which is the deepest point in the Mariana Trench.

An Omega Ultra-Deep concept watch made history in 2019 when it reached the deepest point on Earth as part of the Five Deeps Expedition. Shining a UV light on the Summer Blue Ultra-Deep watch dial reveals the words “OMEGA WAS HERE,” in reference to the 10,935-meter dive record that Omega was a part of.
