Vacheron Constantin Releases Stainless Steel 222 for 2025
Vacheron Constantin is extremely highly regarded among luxury watch enthusiasts, and for good reason. Not only are they the oldest continuously operating watch brand in the world, but they’re also the makers of the most complicated (and second-most complicated) watch ever made. Regarded as part of the “Holy Trinity” along with Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin’s dressy watches are among the best out there. But from a sales/hype perspective, watch fans want to see steel sports watches–and the Overseas was Vacheron’s only offering in that department until now. For 2025, Vacheron Constantin unleashed a stainless steel version of their beloved 222 model, ref. 4200H/222A-B934. Here’s what you should know about the steel Vacheron 222.

Differences Between Steel and Yellow Gold Version
The new steel Vacheron 222 (4200H/222A) is in the same model line as the yellow gold one that debuted in 2022 (4200H/222J), so aside from being made out of stainless steel, the only change is the dial color. And the little maltese cross on the case is now gold.
222 History
The original Vacheron Constantin 222 was introduced in 1977 to commemorate the brand’s 222nd anniversary. Designed by Jörg Hysek, it was a stark departure from Vacheron’s traditional dress watches, entering the integrated-bracelet luxury sports watch segment alongside icons like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. With its slim profile and distinctive notched bezel, the 222 was produced in four sizes (24mm, 34mm, the classic 37mm “Jumbo,” and an odd square-ish 31mm one). Each version of the 222 was available in yellow gold, stainless steel, or two-tone. It later inspired the Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection, which launched in 1996.
The 222 was reissued in 2022, at first in yellow gold only, as part of the Historiques collection. The modern 222’s are so aesthetically similar to the originals that it’s hard to tell them apart at a glance. Here’s what an original steel “Jumbo” looks like:
Steel Vacheron 222 Price and Availability
The Vacheron Constantin 222 in stainless steel (priced at $32,000) is not an official limited edition, although its annual production will certainly be inherently limited, and it’s only available at Vacheron Constantin boutiques. Don’t expect to get one from a VC boutique anytime soon unless you’re already a good established customer.
The yellow gold version resells right around its list price of $74,000, but you’ll likely have to pay over $50,000 secondhand to get your hands on the steel 222. Time will tell if they release a two-tone model to complete the historical trio.

Gorgeous watch. I dare say it will be more sought after than the Royal Oak and Nautilus but it will be up there!
