Patek Philippe Introduces the New Nautilus 5712/1R in Full Rose Gold

Although Patek Philippe’s release of the Nautilus 5811/1G will undoubtedly steal this watch’s spotlight, the 5712/1R is one to look out for.

Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712 History

The 5712 model line did not witness the same fate as the 5711 and is still currently in production. The 5712 released in 2006, the same year as the 5711, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of the original 3700 Nautilus designed by Gerald Genta in 1976.

The 5712 was the successor to the short-lived 3712, which was only produced for one year between 2005 and 2006. At the time of its launch, the 3712 was the most complicated Nautilus ever made. It featured a power reserve indicator, moonphase, date and subsidiary seconds.

The Nautilus 5712 is a slightly larger and thicker watch than the 3712. This makes it feel slightly more robust and gives it a better wrist presence. There are also slight nuances to the dial such as an additional red dot to the power reserve indicator and one additional hour indicator on the 3712 versus the 5712.

Both the 3712 and 5712 are powered by Patek’s 240 micro-rotor movements, albeit in slightly different variations. The 5712 has upgrades that improve overall efficiency and timekeeping. 

Both the 3712 and 5712 have a cult-like following due to their atypical format and design. Although the watch is part of the Nautilus line, its complications and layout are unique and distinct compared to other Nautilus models.

The New Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712/1R

While the 5712/1R has been produced in the past, no version has ever existed on a rose gold bracelet apart from a piece unique done by Patek Philippe. Also new to the 5712 line, the 5712/1R features a chocolate brown dial.

This contrasts the rose gold case beautifully and adds warmth and richness to the watch overall. The color combination enhances the quirky layout of the 5712, adding a layer of depth and intrigue that makes this release standout.

Outside of these new design cues, the 5712/1R is identical in terms of proportions, format and its movement.

The watch features the same 40mm case diameter, case thickness of 8.52mm and a rose gold case with an integrated rose gold bracelet. The integrated bracelet uses Patek’s newer expanding clasp system, the same functions including a power reserve indicator, moonphase, date and subsidiary seconds and the watch is still powered by the Caliber 240 which is stamped with Patek’s in-house seal.

The case and bracelet feature both polished and brushed surfaces and the flanks of the bezel, case, and bracelet feature polished bevels. 

The retail price of the 5712/1R is €82,100 which is €12,900 more expensive than the 5811/1G and €38,700 more expensive than the retail price of the 5712/1R on a leather strap which carries a retail price of €43,400 for comparison.
