How Much is a UR-120? A Guide to URWERK UR 120 Prices

Celine Simon Wednesday, February 21st, 2024 5 min. read

Introduced in 2022, the Urwerk UR-120 is the brand’s latest iteration of its award-winning UR-110 timepiece. Upon launch, the official retail price of the Urwerk UR-120 watch was CHF 100,000, equivalent to about $102,000 at the time. While the UR-120 is not explicitly a limited production piece, it will be limited by production capabilities — Urwerk only produces around 150 watches per year. So, if you’re not willing to wait for one to become available at an authorized dealer, how much is a UR-120 Spock on the secondary market? Depending on condition and provenance, expect to pay anywhere from $110,000 to $130,000 for an Urwerk UR-120 watch in today’s market.

The Urwerk UR-120 “Spock”

Urwerk is known to attach nicknames to its creations, often to acknowledge the design inspiration of specific watches. In this instance, the UR-120 is affectionately known as “Spock” thanks to the spinning hour blocks that split as they rotate on their own axis, which creates a look that resembles the Vulcan salute.

The UR-120 is not an entirely new watch for Urwerk as it’s actually a modern interpretation of the company’s famed UR-110 model which snagged a GPHG award in 2011. Urwerk retired the UR-110 in 2019 with a unique piece made in Bakelite that was auctioned for charity.

While both the preceding UR-110 and subsequent UR-120 use orbiting satellite complications to tell the time and feature asymmetrical cases, the newer iteration benefits from a redesign that resulted in a more compact and sleek creation.

The approach has proved to be successful as the UR-120 is one of the company’s most popular models in the current catalog. That popularity coupled with Urwerk’s low production explains why the UR-120 price on the secondary market ranges from about $110,000 to $130,000. The secondhand fair market value is quite close to its original MSRP when you consider that 100,000 CHF is now worth $115,000. These are not easy watches to find, and when you do find one outside the official distribution channels (such as at a grey market dealer) you’ll likely still have to pay six figures for it.

Other Urwerk Watch Prices

Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei’s creations have gained a loyal following since the duo launched their brand in 1997. Given their futuristic looks and cutting-edge mechanics, Urwerk watches aren’t for everyone; however, those who appreciate modern high horology understand that few do it better than Baumgartner and Frei. So, how do Urwerk watch prices fare on the secondary market?

It’s important to note that given how few Urwerk watches are made per year and how few are actually available for sale on the pre-owned market (people who buy them tend to keep them), establishing market value is not as straightforward as watch brands that produce tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even a million plus of watches per year. Remember, Urwerk produces around 150 watches per year. So take these market prices with a grain of salt – – this isn’t an exact science but rather, educated estimates. Also, as always, values will depend on factors such as condition, material, and provenance.
