2024 Omega Olympic Watch Guide

Omega and the Olympics go back nearly a century to 1932, when the Swiss watchmaker became the official timekeeper of the games. Today, the role involves 550 timekeepers and massive amounts of technology accurate up to the millionth of a second. That is quite the evolution when you consider Omega sent just one man supplied with 30 chronographs to the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932 during their first go-round as timekeeper. It’s a legacy that the brand observes biennially by adding special numbered edition watches to its catalog, complete with a bevy of Olympic-inspired design elements. The brand is celebrating Paris 2024 with six Omega Olympic Watches: four Speedmaster Chronoscope references, a classy “Specialities” watch based on a design from 1939, and one Seamaster Diver 300M.

The color scheme for this year’s games is gold, black, and white – very on the nose with the region’s elegant “art de vivre.” Omega has incorporated the color theme into all six models, including the Seamaster Diver 300M, which is only available in two-tone. The case and bracelet are in stainless steel, while the diver’s bezel insert is made from Omega’s proprietary 18k Moonshine Gold alloy, featuring raised and polished 60-minute graduations.

The iconic wave dial often associated with the dive watch is presented in white ceramic with a polished horizontal wave motif and gold Super-LumiNova hour markers and skeleton hands to match the bezel. This special edition Omega offers the collection’s standard 300-meter depth rating, convenient Quick Change System for the bracelet, and co-axial caliber 8800 self-winding mechanical movement.

Omega has executed the Olympic design elements on this Seamaster very tastefully. First is the seconds hand, decorated with a Paris 2024 Olympic flame logo counterweight. The dial also features a date display at 6 o’clock with stylized numerals to match the official font for this year’s games.

Lastly, the case back is adorned with a polished and frosted steel and gold medallion depicting the Olympic logo in gold as well as the legendary Olympic rings and the “Paris 2024” in the same distinctive font as the date display. 2024 marks the first year Omega has sold matching NATO straps alongside a special edition Olympic watch. Five colors are available, one to represent each color in the ring logo. The straps retail for $290.

Paris 2024 Special Edition Speedmaster Chronoscope

The Seamaster Diver 300M delivers the water resistance needed for timing aquatic sports, while the Speedmaster Chronoscope was developed for accurately measuring short intervals of time, such as a 100-meter dash or relay race. The Chronoscope, which Omega released in 2021, differs from traditional Speedmasters because it sports twin sub-dials and three 1940s-inspired snailed timing scales circling the center of the dial featuring tachymeter, pulsometer, and telemeter scales.

The Paris 2024 Chronoscope is available in either stainless steel or 18k Moonshine gold. Each metal is available on either a matching metal bracelet or leather, which makes a total of four references. The leather strap is perforated on the stainless steel model, while the gold model is slightly more dressed up in solid leather. The stainless steel models feature aluminum bezels, while the gold iterations sport more lustrous ceramic.

You wouldn’t know it unless you opened up the case, but gold models also feature the beautifully decorated caliber 9909 movement with an 18k Sedna Gold balance bridge. Instead, the stainless steel model is driven by the rhodium-plated caliber 9908. All four watches measure 43mm in diameter with a 13mm case height, featuring on-theme silvery white opaline dials with black panda sub-dials, gold hour markers, and gold leaf-shaped hands.

The Omega marketing material is rife with clever references to the winning aesthetic of gold, so it’s appropriate to see a full-gold model in the lineup, complete with a frosted and polished gold “Paris 2024” medallion on the case back. The gold hands and hour markers give the steel versions some of the flash of their all-gold counterparts without taking away from the versatility of the stainless steel finish. There really seems to be a model between the four that will appeal to any collector interested in panda dials and Omega Olympic watches.

Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition

Omega released the most recent Paris 2024 Olympics watch just days before the opening ceremony, this time paying tribute to each of the three Olympic medals: gold, silver, and bronze. The case is furnished in Omega’s exclusive bronze gold, an alloy made from palladium, silver, and 37.5% gold.  It won’t tarnish as quickly as normal bronze and has a soft pink hue.

The dial is made from Ag 925 silver with “Clous de Paris” and circular brushed patterns.  While the “Clous de Paris” hobnail texture is common on Omega watches, it has a double meaning for this model.  The medals for this year’s games feature an original piece of the Eiffel Tower secured to the center by claws decorated with “Clous de Paris,” which also happens to be the same pattern that adorns the rivets on the Eiffel Tower. Lastly, the hands are made from 18K Sedna™ Gold and treated with a PVD Bronze Gold coating.

Omega’s latest Olympic offering is modeled after a watch the brand produced in 1939. It featured the caliber 30T manual-winding movement with small seconds. To refresh your memory, the 1930s were the same era in which Omega was deemed the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. The case back is adorned with a commemorative Paris 2024 medallion and special engraving, “BG 859,” in reference to the bronze gold finish and shape of the case.
