The Rolex Grand Link: A 5/4 President Bracelet Link
Tool-free micro-adjustable clasps have become almost obligatory on luxury watches in recent years, and it was Rolex who popularized them starting in 2004 with the Easylink clasp. The beloved Glidelock clasp, used on Rolex dive watches, came a few years later. But the famous Rolex President bracelet, used on their Day-Date model as well as some precious metal ladies’ Datejusts, has always had a sleek “hidden” Crownclasp with no room for a micro-adjustment mechanism. So to get the perfect fit for your President, you might need to order a Rolex Grand Link, or “5/4 size” link, from your local authorized dealer.
What is a Rolex Grand Link?
A Rolex Grand Link is simply 1.25x the size of a regular President bracelet link. It can be installed as the first link under the Crownclasp.
Does Rolex Make a Grand Link for Oyster or Jubilee?
No, Rolex only makes the Grand Link (1.25x-size) for the current President bracelet, presumably because their other metal bracelets (Oyster and Jubilee) both have tool-free micro-adjustable clasps.
Price and Availability
A solid gold Rolex Grand Link for a Day-Date 36 reportedly costs about $700 as of 2025. Expect to pay a bit more for a platinum or Day-Date 40 version. To get one, simply talk to your local authorized Rolex dealer, or a Rolex Service Center if you live near one. Be patient if you speak with someone who has never heard of a “Rolex Grand Link” before. as these are not very well-known for some reason; they’ll figure it out. You should have it within a few weeks.
Rolex has never made a half-link nor a 1.5-link to my knowledge. Perhaps they felt that a 50% increase in size would make the link look too inelegant. And in theory you could go with two Grand Links to effectively get an extra “half-link” anyway.
So, if you’re looking to fine-tune the fitment of your modern Day-Date’s bracelet, and removing or adding a link is too much, the Rolex Grand Link (a.k.a. “5/4 link”) is your only factory option.
