Rolex files lots of patents, and sometimes they’re difficult to decipher. Often there is endless legalese and it’s unclear what’s even being patented or if it’s truly new. But design patents are a little bit less ambiguous, and Rolex has been granted some Swiss design patents with surprisingly clear images. Here are the five probable off-catalog 2024 Rolex models we could find in the Swiss patent database.
White Gold Deepsea
The yellow gold Deepsea was one of the new Rolex 2024 models revealed at Watches and Wonders. It has its own design patent, and there appears to be a patent for white gold Deepsea as well.
Off-Catalog 2024 Icy Coke
The design patent for the 2024 version of the Icy Coke Rolex GMT looks pretty much like the yellow gold one seen in 2023, except it’s now also available in white gold–with one additional key difference: baguettes. The lugs are set with baguette diamonds instead of round brilliants, and the outer links of the bracelet are set with baguettes as well. Surely the list price of these models (126778 RUSA and 126779 RUSA) will far exceed the $181,000 list price of the first Icy Coke.
Off-Catalog 2024 Rolex Day-Date 36 on Leather Strap
Rolex released a series of off-catalog colorful Day-Date 36 models on leather straps in 2021, and again in 2022, so it’s no surprise to see a design patent for a couple of off-catalog 2024 Rolex Day-Date models in that vain. From these pics, it’s unclear if the dial is made of some kind of stone like sodalite or what, but a leak from Rolex Passion Report looks like an opal dial. The entire watch (aside from the leather strap and the caseback) is covered in round brilliant diamonds, just like the 12815xRBR models released in 2021. One version of this Rolex Day-Date has a blue strap and another has a fuchsia one.
Off-Catalog 2024 Pink Sapphire-Bezel Rolex Daytona on Leather
Pink sapphires have been seen on Daytona bezels before, but they’re incredibly rare. An off-catalog 2024 Rolex Daytona release seen in this patent basically looks like an updated 116598SARO with a pink dial, with pink sapphire baguette hour markers. It comes on a pink leather strap and has pink sapphires on the bezel. It has already been nicknamed the “Barbie Daytona” for obvious reasons, and renders of it can be seen on Instagram.
Air-King Desk Clock
I don’t know why Rolex filed a design patent for a desk-clock that looks like an Air-King, but they did and I want one.
These are all the interesting off-catalog Rolex 2024 clues we could find from the Swiss design patent database. Some blurry pics of some them have already started to circulate online, presumably lifted from the internal Rolex database that their employees and watchmakers have access to. That database used to have high-res images of every reference (even off-catalog) but I suspect Rolex only includes smaller images in there now precisely because of these leaks. Anyway, if you’ve seen any of these references in the flesh, let us know!
