Patek Philippe’s unexpected yet beautiful release of the 5935A World Time Flyback Chronograph in Stainless Steel with a salmon dial is a huge win!
The world-time chronograph from Patek Philippe is a more recent complication that debuted in the 5930G at Baselworld in 2016 and has since developed a cult-like following. It represented a toned-down sportier entry into the complicated watches Patek Philippe is known for to ultimately appeal to a younger demographic.
Since its initial release, we’ve seen a number of different variations of this model, the latest being the release of the Patek Philippe 5935A. A rather unexpected release considering the watch combines both a steel case and salmon dial which are an extremely uncommon combination for Patek Philippe.

Steel is a case metal that Patek Philippe releases for watches in a super limited quantity and that are typically extremely special and collectible.
However, in recent years Patek Philippe has been releasing steel watches in greater numbers including for example the 5212A and 5905A. So to see another release of a steel watch is somewhat shocking and does potentially signal a new sense of direction for the Patek Philippe brand.

Salmon dials were also typically reserved for Patek’s most prestigious and complicated watches such as the now-discontinued 5270P or the 5372P. Likewise, in recent years Patek has been incorporating more salmon dials into their lineups such as the releases of the 5320G and 5172G, for example.

The 5935A is the successor to the 5930 reference which featured the same complications as this watch including a worldtime capable of tracking 24 distinct time zones, a flyback chronograph and 30 minute chronograph counter.
However, in this newer reference, Patek scaled up the size of the watch going from 39.5mm to now 41mm in diameter, further accentuating the sporty feel of the watch given the larger size.

The watch also has a very wearable case thickness of 12.75mm which allows the watch to have a good wrist presence without being overly thick. Patek also changed the aesthetic of the dial with a new guilloche pattern at the dial’s center.
The pusher at 10 o’clock allows you to set the world time while the pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock allow the user to start, stop and reset the chronograph. The watch is powered by Patek Philippe’s in-house caliber CH 28-520 HU which boasts a power reserve of 50-55 hours, has 343 overall components and beats away at 28,800 vibrations per hour or 4Hz.

The Patek Philippe 5935A is priced at $63,870 USD which is a great entry point to the brand for collectors looking for a sporty yet complicated watch from the most prestigious brand in the industry.
