Swiss luxury watchmaker Baume et Mercier was founded in 1830 by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume. Today, the company is owned by luxury goods holding company Richemont. They are renowned for creating high-quality sporting chronographs that are very fashionable, while remaining highly functional. Initially, the company was exclusively family owned and operated until William Baume; a third generation company owner joined forces with Paul Mercier at the beginning of the 1920s, and together, they founded Baume & Mercier, Genève. The company had this important merger at a very important time in the history of the world. World War I had recently ended, and the social climate and status quo were ripe for change. During the war, the wristwatch began to gain popularity due to its level of functionality which far eclipsed that of the pocket watch. This key change in fashion gave Baume and his new partner Mericer the opportunity to show their contemporary and more innovative sides to help push their company to the next level.
Today, the brand still creates timelessly elegant timepieces for both men and women.
