Day-Date 40

It is no secret that Rolex watches are renown the world over for their exacting engineering, build quality, outstanding aesthetics and exceeding accuracy. There are few luxury timepiece manufacturers in existence that are capable of producing instruments of the immense quality so characteristic of those made by Rolex. The Swiss company's Sea-Dweller wristwatch is one of the finest examples of horological engineering genius at its best.

The Sea-Dweller's extreme diving pedigree is apparent in every aspect of the timepiece's manufacture. Its stalwart 43-millimeter brushed stainless steel case is carved out of a single block of the metal. This, in conjunction with Rolex's patented RingLock system guarantees the watch's ability to withstand enormous underwater pressure up to nearly three metric tons. Rolex's classic circular indices denote each hour around the jet-black dial. Along with the hours and minutes hands, each is coated with special blue luminescent paint glows bright and much longer than the standard green paint. A polished black Cerachrom unidirectional rotating bezel featuring a 60-minute graduation and a luminescent 12 o'clock index allows easy tracking of elapsed time in the deepest, murkiest water. A screw-down stainless steel crown outfitted with a triple gasket locking system ensures that no water enters the body, even up to depths of an absolutely astronomical 12,000 feet. A specially designed stainless steel helium valve built into the casing allows potentially damaging gases that accumulate inside the watch during deep dives to safely escape during the ascent.

The Sea-Dweller is outfitted with a stainless steel bracelet featuring both brushed and polished finishes. The patented Glidelock sizing system developed by Rolex enables the band to be adjusted in small increments without having to remove it from the wrist.
