Audemars Piguet was officially founded in 1889, and it is considered one of the finest manufacturers of prestigious, luxury timepieces. The mega-collaboration of genius Swiss watchmakers, Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward Piguet, revolutionized the timepiece making industry and together, they created a standard that is still upheld today.
Edward Piguet, along with his partner, Jule-Louis Audemars, were Swiss watch-making masters. The roots of their business relationship is said to be 1875, when together they graduated from the prestigious Vallee de Joux.
It was not enough for Piguet to have the pieces completed. He happily took on the role of repasseur, which translates to regulatory. It was his responsibility to see the finalized pieces, and to make sure that their Swiss luxury timepieces had been perfectly constructed, from start-to-finish. In addition, Piguet focused on their company’‘s branding and sales growth. The decision was made to have all design and assembly completed in-house. Piguet was able to retain full quality control on all aspects of the luxury watch making process.
Audemars and Piguet produced only 1,208 luxury watches between 1894 and 1899. This small, but solid number stands as a testament to the excellence that Audemars and Piguet sought, and continually upheld. Piguet saw to it that their retail locations in Geneva and London were also able to handle repairs and customer service demands. The purchase did not end with a receipt, but rather, came with a guarantee of continual service and excellence.
As demand for their timepieces grew, Piguet began taking on world renowned, luxury clients, such as Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari. Their craftsmanship alone was trusted to take on these prominent and respected luxury manufacturers. Piguet designed and rebranded the watches with the luxury client’‘s logo. In doing so, he solidified Audemars Piguet’‘s reputation as one of the world’‘s finest luxury timepiece producers.
Piguet’‘s commitment to the luxury watch making tradition is evident in their timepieces, and in the reputation that he and Audemars created in their lifetimes. Their pledge to producing handmade watches of impeccable quality is the reason Audemars Piguet still stands as one of the finest producers of luxury timepieces in the world.
