Wristwatch cognoscente will agree that Chopard timepieces could be described only as irrefutable works of tremendous engineering ingenuity, beauty and refined luxury. The Chopard Mille Miglia Power Control adds dynamism and functional muscle to that description.
Nothing about this stunner of a watch is subdued or subtle. Its super-wide 44-millimeter stainless steel, titanium or gold case houses the most gigantic movement available in any wristwatch offered by any manufacturer, period. And, of course, as one should expect of Chopard luxury watches, the Mille Miglia Power Control is COSC chronometer-certified, ensuring unsurpassed accuracy.
The Power Contol's speedometer-styled dial features large, blocky numbers displayed in five-minute increments, with tick marks representing every minute in between. With three oversized hands, including a second hand tipped by a bright red arrow, it is virtually impossible to misread under high-pressure situations. At the apex of the dial sits a massive "12" that will certainly garner the attention of anyone close enough to see it.
Unquestionably, the most unique feature of the Chopard Mille Miglia Power Control is the semi-circular power reserve display, its dimensions perfectly counterbalancing the oversize "12." This unique complication mimics a race car's fuel gauge, with a percentage indicator and a needle. A red zone below 20% reminds the wearer that the automatic watch soon needs the input of energy to continue running.
Other features include a protected, screw-down crown and a date window with a large magnifier. Strap options include rubber, hand-stitched alligator and Barenia. The rubber strap features a unique Dunlop racing tire tread pattern that can be a conversation piece on its own. Cases are available in stainless steel, titanium and fine, 18-karat rose gold.
