“As most of you know watches is the very thing that started LuxuryBazaar almost 10 years ago. As an avid watch collector I have always bought, sold, and traded watches on a personal level. Then in 2001 it was my spouse that gave me an idea of putting some of my collection up on eBay to sell. While eBay launched only 5 years prior, by 2001 eBay has established itself as one of the largest online market places, yet it was still emerging for certain goods. At that time there were only a handful of watch sellers and I have to be honest my first response to my wife’s idea, was very skeptical. The idea of customers sending someone they do not know a substantial amount of money without ever seeing the seller or the product for that matter seemed a little too good to be true.
Well what happened in the following years was exactly that - too good to be true! By 2003 we have established ourselves as one of the largest and most reputable sellers on eBay and launched our website which has drawn clientele from all over the world and yielded a growth which I could hardly handle. In a short five years, LuxuryBazaar went from a one man band, to a 5000 square foot shop with 20 employees and an average of 33 million in yearly sales on watches alone. We did this; of course, with excellent customer service, competitive pricing, and the ability of delivering fine and rare time pieces that others could not. But what made us most successful is education, very early on I was fortunate to meet a client that was in the advertizing and marketing industry that told me that you have to educate your consumer first and foremost, and not go for the close. Once you provide all the information and choices available, your customer feels comfortable in making a decision and a purchase from you and your company.
Concentrating on major brands, such as Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Jager LeCoultre, IWC, Corum, Breguet, Blancpain, Rolex, Panerai, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin, Hublot, Zenith and then moving on to newer more avant-garde brands like Richard Mille, DeWitt, Romaine Jerome, Bovet, de Grisogono, Graham allowed us to offer our clients a very wide selection.
Although, I considered myself very knowledgeable in the watch field prior to LuxuryBazaar, I have become a watch encyclopedia over the years, and have always made sure to pass that knowledge to my growing staff so that my clients are always getting the most accurate and sufficient information on a potential purchase.
