In fact, we update our online store every day to ensure we are always offering Corum’s latest, and most innovative wristwatches for both men and women.

How Corum Came to Be

While Corum was officially founded in 1955 by René Bannwart and Simone Ries, it was Simone’s father and René’s uncle—Gaston Ries—who can be credited with establishing the first Corum workshop in 1924. When Reis’ son and nephew took the reins, they made it their priority to design timepieces that would look both creative and traditional, and that would eventually go on to adorn the wrists of luxury connoisseurs all over the globe today.

Under Bannwart and Ries’ leadership, Corum went on to carve out a notable niche for itself (one that is still theirs today) with a model that immediately became a success: the $20 Liberty Eagle watch, a wristwatch that's crafted from a genuine U.S. $20 gold piece. To create these unique wristwatches, Corum's watchmakers would carefully cut mint-state double eagle ($20) and Liberty eagle ($10) coins in half. Then, they would place a high-quality movement between the obverse and reverse of the coin. Even though other watchmakers had made this style of watch since the 1920s, they only made them as dress pocket watches. Corum’s claim to fame was that they made this popular style into the first wristwatch.

A Plethora of Corum Watch Designs Are Available

Today, this leading luxury brand continues to offer some of the richest collections in its industry. Corum’s timepieces are easily recognizable, and even though some of their movements are based on ébauches, they are frequently reworked by the company’s master watchmakers.

Corum, like many other popular luxury watchmakers, has a wide variety of original designs such as their Golden Bridge, Limelight, Coin Watch, Romulus, and Admiral's Cup collections. However, rather than just releasing new timepieces for these collections, the brand continues to dazzle customers by constantly debuting new designs. After all, Corum has long been a brand that’s been focused on true creation, and not merely the re-invention of their older wristwatches.

In the late 1990s, Corum was owned by the Bannwart family and the Al Fardan Group in Doha, Qatar. In 2000, the company saw the arrival of a new President and owner, Severin Wunderman, who helped to continue invigorating the Corum brand. However, since both Wunderman’s passing in 2008 and founder René Bannwart’s passing in 2010, the company has been owned by Citychamp Watch & Jewellery Ltd.

Regardless of who owns Corum, there’s no denying that their master watchmakers at La-Chaux-de-Fonds continue to create marvelous timepieces—two of which include the Minute Repeater and Minute Repeater/Tourbillon. And, they do so in an environment and underneath a brand that has long fostered creativity and treasured craftsmanship
